INDIANAPOLIS — One month and counting before IndyGo’s Purple Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route launches on Sunday, Oct. 13. To ensure riders along 38th Street and Post Road are well prepared for the upcoming changes, IndyGo is seeking transit supporters and community members to volunteer as Purple Line Ambassadors during the launch week Oct. 14 -18. Purple Line Ambassadors will be located at stations throughout the corridor to educate and assist riders on how to pay and use Indianapolis’ newest bus rapid transit route.

Those interested in becoming an ambassador can fill out the registration form HERE. All will receive a follow-up email with additional information. Ambassadors will be required to attend one of two offered training sessions to prepare them for the opportunity:

  • Virtual Training Session | Tuesday, Oct. 8 | 6 p.m. |
  • Avondale Meadows YMCA | Thursday, Oct. 10 | 6 p.m. |

Additionally, we invite everyone to check out the Prepare for Purple webpage HERE to learn helpful information about traveling on or along the new BRT route! This webpage hosts rider details including how to plan and pay for trips on the Purple Line, as well as route adjustments and operational changes they can expect from the project. Motorist details regarding traffic pattern changes are also explained through graphics and videos.

For those wanting to learn more, IndyGo representatives will share details and answer questions pertaining to the project at the following events:

  • East 38th Street Library | Monday, Sept. 23 | noon – 2 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. | Focus – Routes 4 and 39, Purple Line
  • P30 Coworking Space | Tuesday, Sept. 24 | noon – 2 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. | Focus – Route 4 and 39, Purple Line
  • Fort Ben Library | Monday, Sept. 30 | noon – 2 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. | Focus – Route 4 and 39, Purple Line

“As we embark on this major milestone, we look forward to celebrating the transformation with the communities along these corridors,” said IndyGo President and CEO Jennifer Pyrz. “However, riders on the Far Eastside aren’t the only ones who will see dramatic improvements during their commutes along the Purple Line. Those traveling along the Purple and Red lines between downtown and the 38th Street/Park Avenue station will experience even greater frequency where the two lines overlap.”

The Purple Line has already brought crucial infrastructure improvements, economic growth and increased access to life’s opportunities for Indianapolis residents. After its launch, it will introduce unparalleled connections between downtown Indy and the City of Lawrence. It will also provide faster, more efficient and reliable transportation between neighborhoods, major employers, healthcare and educational facilities.
