INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation (IPTF) raised $63,000 from its sold-out inaugural golf outing Thursday, Sept. 9, at Sarah Shank Golf Course exceeding its goal of $50,000. Proceeds from the event will support the foundation’s mobility access fund, which enhances public transportation to create better access to employment, food, health care, education and other enriching and essential services.

Nearly 130 golfers registered, and 60 businesses participated in foursomes, sponsorships and donations.

“It’s incredible to see the generosity of our community shine so brightly for such a worthy cause,” said Emily Lovison, executive director of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation. “Everyone deserves equal opportunity to safe and reliable transportation. The proceeds from this golf outing will make a significant impact for those who need it most.”

The Mobility Access Fund was established in 2020 to provide grants to nonprofit organizations who serve clients that can benefit from increased mobility and access to reliable transportation, including veterans, seniors, students and people with disabilities. Funds raised through the Foundation this year have helped to grant bus passes to clients served by 16 nonprofit organizations, opened new bus shelters and stops and provided 31-day paper bus passes to 100+ IndyGo riders as an incentive for getting vaccinated at several recent pop-up vaccination clinics at the Carson Transit Center.

This year’s inaugural event honored Tommie Jones, who is a former IndyGo board member and transit advocate. The golf outing was made possible thanks to the following sponsors:
