INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 30, 2021) – Get a COVID-19 vaccine, receive free access* to IndyGo for an entire month. It’s an exciting incentive provided by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield available to everyone who takes advantage of the upcoming vaccination clinic Friday, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. – noon and 2 – 6 p.m. at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center (CTC), located at 201 E. Washington St. This is the second time for the event. The first pop-up clinic in July was so successful vaccinating more than 60 people in just four hours, the decision was made to expand the hours of operation.
Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases nationwide and the heightened alert about the Delta variant strain locally, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is teaming up again with IndyGo, Shalom Health Care Center, the Marion County Public Health Department, the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation and the Indy Chamber to host a free vaccination clinic. No registration is required.
“At Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, we are dedicated to making the health care system simpler, like working with community partners to help make access to the COVID-19 vaccination widely available and convenient,” said Dr. Kimberly Roop, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicaid Plan President in Indiana. “Anthem is pleased to participate in this important public health outreach to increase the vaccination rate in Marion County.”
The pop-up vaccination clinic at the Carson Transit Center will conveniently connect those who ride IndyGo to the vaccine, making it easier for people on the go.
“After the tremendous success of our last pop-up clinic, we feel like we’ve hit the jackpot with this location at the CTC,” said Inez Evans, IndyGo president & CEO. “We know transportation can be a barrier for many people to get out and get vaccinated, so we’re happy to see people taking advantage of this opportunity to utilize our extensive mobility network to connect to this important service.”
Shalom Health Care Center is a local nonprofit located on Indianapolis’ west side serving the city’s underserved and most vulnerable population.
“Our patients have been most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Morella Dominguez, Shalom Health Care Center chief marketing and development officer. “Our team has worked tirelessly through community clinics and even deploying our mobile unit to help end the pandemic. We’ve administered more than 5,500 vaccinations since January, and we’re excited to partner with this latest effort to reach even more people.”
“We must increase our efforts to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible to all residents,” said Dr. Virginia Caine, director and chief medical officer of the Marion County Public Health Department. “Partnerships such as this one help bring the vaccine closer to where people live or work. Each person we vaccinate makes our community healthier and more resilient as we reduce the impact of COVID-19.”
“We’re grateful to Anthem for sponsoring this event,” said Emily Lovison, Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation (IPTF) executive director. “By funding the IndyGo passes used as incentives, they’re not only helping to protect the community against COVID-19, but adding critical funds to the IPTF Mobility Access Program, which connects the community to health care, employment, food, education and other enriching and essential services.”
All participants will receive a free 31-day IndyGo paper pass at the clinic immediately following their vaccination. The Moderna vaccine will be offered and is available to anyone 18 years of age and older.
Additionally, the health department will host pop-up vaccination clinics at the CTC every Wednesday in September – Sept. 8-29, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. All three vaccines will be available, including the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines for anyone 18 years and older, and the Pfizer vaccine for anyone 16 years and older.
IndyGo’s future headquarters at 9503 E. 33rd St. is still open for free vaccinations Tuesdays – Saturdays in partnership with the Marion County Public Health Department. Click HERE for specific times.
