INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo would like to inform riders and motorists that work on the next round of Super Stops is expected to resume as early as April. This work involves upgrading some of Indianapolis’ busiest downtown bus stops to include ticket vending machines, near-level boarding, bus shelters and longer platforms to serve more buses at once.
The locations for the next round of Super Stops includes:
- Southwest corner of Alabama and North streets
- Northwest corner of Alabama and New York streets
- Fort Wayne Avenue and 9th Street (both directions along Fort Wayne Ave.)
- Vermont Street and Capitol Avenue (both directions along Vermont St.)
IndyGo representatives will share upcoming construction impacts and tools available to the community to help them thrive during construction at the following event:
- Virtual Public Meeting | Thursday, April 20, at 5:30 p.m. | Register here.
Through this project, IndyGo is bringing the comfort, convenience and reliability of Bus Rapid Transit to local fixed route service.
With the installation of 20-foot shelters that extend covered seating at the Super Stops, more riders can comfortably wait for the bus while being shielded from the weather. A raised platform about 9-inches high will provide near-level boarding to allow riders to more easily get on and off the bus. Ticket vending machines will allow riders to buy fare or reload their MyKey card onsite without having to visit the Carson Transit Center.
Additionally, space for two buses along the 90-foot platform keeps the high volume of buses from multiple routes moving efficiently through the stop. This will accommodate increased frequencies planned for local route improvements in the downtown area.
