Not-for-profit partnership provides free bus passes to some Indy residents

INDIANAPOLIS (January 28, 2021) – The Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation and Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana recently announced a new partnership that will provide some Goodwill employees who reside along IndyGo’s bus routes with free passes to get back-and-forth to their jobs.

“Goodwill employs more than 600 Indianapolis residents—70% of whom have an employment barrier, like a disability, criminal history or limited education,” said Kent A.Kramer, CEO and president at Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana. “Many of our employees also lack reliable transportation, so we’re grateful to have a partner like the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation to help mitigate this issue.”

Sponsored by OneAmerica® and IndyGo, the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation will provide 10-trip passes as well as one-day passes for fixed route services. This partnership leverages funding from OneAmerica and resources from IndyGo to reduce barriers to employment. Over the next three months, this partnership will provide more than 1,800 free rides to Goodwill employees for whom transportation presents a challenge.

“The Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation is excited to announce this new partnership with Goodwill that will help some of the most vulnerable residents in our community achieve and maintain employment,” said Emily Lovison, executive director of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation.

“Overcoming barriers to daily transportation is one of the major issues that can assist residents in connecting with good jobs,” said Jen Pittman, vice president of communications and community affairs for OneAmerica. “Removing these hurdles can expand opportunities for those who are already seeking to overcome challenges in finding stable employment.”

The Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation and Goodwill look forward to partnering on future efforts to reduce barriers to employment through access to transportation.
